This project is one of the activities planned by the project “Green UP! A community that heals, educates and regenerates.” A city-wide environmental project that will take place in 6 neighborhoods, in line with a previous environmental project of the San Leo Green neighborhood that was launched in 2022 in the San Leonardo neighborhood of Parma. Volunteers will work together to create a mural, together with young people from the neighborhood, in the courtyard of the Micheli Comprehensive Institute high school.
The drawing that will be reproduced was conceived during the winter and spring months by the students of some classes of the high school and then designed together with the young adults with disabilities who attend the daytime activities of the Fiorente Cooperative and the adolescents of the “Scuola del Fare” youth center. The joint design activities and the realization of the mural will be carried out under the supervision of a young artist from Parma, who will guide the volunteers in the realization of the drawing and in the use of environmentally friendly paints. Volunteers from the neighborhood will also join the group of international volunteers in the realization. Volunteers with interest and skills in mural/graffiti art and creativity are very welcome.
Volunteering work
The group of volunteers will be responsible for reproducing and colouring the design co-designed by the young people of the high school, the Centro Giovani “Scuola del Fare” and the Cooperativa “Fiorente”. Young people from the neighbourhood, who have collaborated in the design, and young people interested in environmental issues and who would like to share an experience with international volunteers, will take part in the activities.
Accommodation
Volunteers will be accommodated in Student’s Hostel Parma, in the San Leonardo district. Multi-bed rooms with shared bathrooms will be reserved for volunteers. It is possible to travel from the accommodation to the project by foot or by bus through the city.
Leisure time
It is possible to visit both the city of Parma and its province, rich in history, monuments, castles and gastronomy. For those interested in visiting other cities, Parma has a strategic position between Milan and Bologna; in an hour by train it is possible to reach both cities. The train station is easily reached on foot and by bus.
Travel
The nearest airport is Bologna or Milan Bergamo and Milan Linate. Continue by train or bus to Parma train station. Meeting point on 16/07 at 17:00 at Parma train station.
IBO asks all its volunteers to travel as sustainably as possible, preferably by train or bus. What you can do in any case is compensate your CO2 emissions through a recognized organisation.

Cost
You can participate as a young adult (18-30) through the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) programme, where the project is funded by European subsidies. This does not cost the participants any money, but it does cost them time (in the form of filling in forms). Please contact us for more information.
