Help build a pleasant meeting place and social projects for 'Europe's children' in Dacia

The project

Dacia is more than just a car brand! The association Copiii Europei (Europe’s Children), which focuses on educational and social work, has been active in the small town of Dacia for several years. Today, it is involved in numerous different social projects. The central project is the education and meeting center, which also includes an inclusive school project. This project received a Peace and Courage Award in 2017 for its unique character. Children in Dacia must be provided with sufficient educational opportunities to be able to independently escape structural poverty. The ecumenical organization sends volunteers to social institutions in Romania and is currently transforming the Dacia rectory into a meeting and educational center. Volunteers can help with further construction for the organization and for poor Roma families. This project is available year-round on a 'Tailor-Made' basis and for groups.

Volunteer work

For this project, think of activities such as carpentry, painting, renovating, gardening, and cleaning tasks. There is still much to do in the garden, and it certainly won't get boring. After all, there is always something going on at the education and meeting center. The exact content of the work can be determined in consultation and depends on the period in which the volunteers attend this Tailor-Made project.

Accommodation

You will be welcomed at the meeting/educational center where you will also be staying. On days off, volunteers are responsible for their own meals. The meals are prepared together. Vegetarian meals are available upon request. A washing machine and Wi-Fi are available.

Leisure

Dacia is a small village in the middle of Romania in the Transylvania region. You can walk various hiking trails there. The cities of Brasov, Sibia, and Făgăraș are quite close by and are excellent for a weekend getaway. There are also several castles worth a visit. Nature lovers can take a walk in the Făgăraș Mountains and experience the endless vastness of Romanian nature.

Travel

You fly to Bucharest or Cluj-Napoca. From there, you take the train to the Rupea Gara train station. The volunteers will be picked up there. After registration, you will receive more information about the exact pick-up location.

IBO asks all volunteers to travel in the most sustainable way possible, so preferably with public transport. Sometimes travelling by plane is inevitable. We kindly suggest to compensate your CO2 emissions. You can find more information about this on the website of Milieu Centraal. You can also compensate your emissions through IBO, by donating to our partner’s tree planting project in Uganda. You can read more about that here.

Preparation

IBO offers a good preparation for your volunteering work abroad. You will receive a digital information package and an invitation to a preparation meeting. Read more about the proces from departure until return.

Costs

IBO asks €50 registration fee. You can also become an IBO-supporter, then you do not pay a registration fee. In addition, you pay a tailor-made or group participation fee. Would you like to know more about how your contribution is made and how it is spent? Read about the costs for participation.
