The project
The Egyesek Youth Association is collaborating for the third time with Csörögi Tanoda, a community learning center managed by the Mahájána Foundation since 2011. Together, they aim to empower children and young people through education, access to employment, and strengthening their resilience. Their shared goal is to make learning engaging and meaningful again for the 26 Roma families they support in Csörög. The activities focus on group work and personal development for children, career orientation, and community building.
Volunteer work
Seize the opportunity to take on the organization of the summer camp alongside a fantastic international volunteer team and forge valuable bonds with underprivileged children aged 10 to 18! As a volunteer, you play an important role in the organization's mission to empower these children by providing them with valuable experiences and bringing about meaningful changes in their lives. Immerse yourself in a week full of fun, learning, and connection, while teaching these children more about yourself, your culture, and the English language. But that is not all: if you have a passion for sports or music, your expertise is more than welcome to enrich the camp experience even further!
Accommodation
.During your stay in Csörög, you will stay in the after-school care building in a large, shared room with mattresses. Please bring your own sleeping bag. The building has a shower and toilet, as well as an excellent kitchen. We provide three meals a day (hot lunch and dinner). A vegetarian option is available. However, you will be asked to help with meal preparation. We schedule who cooks each day. All supplies for your tasks will be provided.
Leisure
Csörög is a small, charming village in Hungary, close to Budapest. The village's quiet streets and green areas are perfect for a relaxing walk or bike ride. The breathtaking sights of the Danube Bend, such as Visegrád and Szentendre, are easily accessible from the surrounding area, both before and after the week-long camp. The locals are hospitable, and various cultural events offer a glimpse into life in the Hungarian countryside.
Travel
Volunteers are requested to travel to Nyugati Station in Budapest. Trains depart every hour to Csörög. The journey from the airport to the train station takes approximately 1 hour by bus and metro, plus 1.5 hours to Csörög. The nearest airport is Ferenc Liszt International Airport in Budapest.
You arrange the travel to your project yourself. IBO asks all volunteers to travel in the most sustainable way possible, so preferably by train or bus. What you at least can do, is compensate your CO2 emissions. You can find more information about this on the website of Milieu Centraal. You can also compensate your emissions via IBO, by donating to our partner’s tree planting project in Uganda. You can read more about that here..
