The project
Contribute in the care of youngsters with a mild intellectual disability & behavioral problems.
De Beele is one of the locations of Pluryn, a national healthcare institution for people with complex needs. Pluryn supports people in increasing their chances of participating in society as fully and independently as possible. Their own strengths and future aspirations are the starting point. De Beele is an orthopedagogical treatment center offering specialized treatments in Voortst and Klarenbeek for young people aged 12 to 21 with mild intellectual disabilities and behavioral problems. At De Beele, young people live in a residential group setting. From there, they go on to school, internships, or work. There's plenty to do in their free time. What do we want to achieve together? That these young people can participate in society as normally as possible later in life.
Volunteer work
The Beele location has a handyman service that works with young people to complete small jobs on the grounds. During the project, the handyman service, along with volunteers, aims to refurbish the garden furniture and make it more inviting. In addition, small jobs will be carried out on the grounds. All work will be carried out in consultation with and under the supervision of permanent staff. There will be a dedicated contact person, in addition to the handyman service's project leader. All in all, renovating the gardens can play an important role in creating a positive and supportive environment for young people in vulnerable situations. It can contribute to their self-esteem, comfort, and sense of belonging, and promote their well-being during their stay in the group home.
Accommodation
Accommodation will be rented in the area for the volunteers. De Beele provides transport and/or bicycles. The volunteers have breakfast in the lodge. Lunch and dinner are provided by the group that is working at that time. The volunteers are requested to bring their own sleeping bag and possibly a pillow, as well as sportswear and work clothes that can get dirty while working in the gardens.
Leisure
In your free time, you can use the leisure facilities on the grounds of the Beele in Voorst, including: the fitness room, gyms, mountain bikes and the Cruyff Court/Storm track. Near Voorst are the cities of Zutphen, Apeldoorn and Deventer. Other Dutch cities are also easily accessible. You can be in Utrecht in a little over an hour and in Amsterdam in 1 ½ hours.

You can choose to travel on your own account to the projectlocation in Voorst, the Netherlands or mention that you would like to be picked up at the trainstation Voorst/Empe and be picked up by members of the organisation.
IBO asks all volunteers to travel in the most sustainable way possible, so preferably with public transport. Sometimes travelling by plane is inevitable. We kindly suggest to compensate your CO2 emissions. You can find more information about this on the website of Milieu Centraal. You can also compensate your emissions through IBO, by donating to our partner’s tree planting project in Uganda. You can read more about that here.
