Support the increase in biodiversity in Millingen aan de Rijn

'The Biesterhof' is a regenerative citizen farm that grows healthy and organic food on 25 hectares of farmland, improves soil and biodiversity and builds a community. The Biesterhof offers space for a market garden, arable farming, fruit trees, nut trees, berry bushes, herbs, two food forests and places where nature can take its course. At the Biesterhof they like to work a lot with volunteers. Not only because there is a lot of work to be done, but also because they hope to bring farmers and citizens closer together. Would it be something for you to come and lend a hand?

Volunteer work

To ensure a pleasant stay, an extra outdoor shower will first be built. Furthermore, work is being done under technical guidance on the completion of a biobased shop (prefab straw elements) where farm products can be sold in the future. You will work with loam and there is also daily work to be done on the land such as weeding and harvesting.

Accommodation

The project uses very simple accommodation in your own tent with a compost toilet and heatable outdoor shower (part of the work). There is a communal area in a tunnel greenhouse, where you can also cook. Lunch is provided, breakfast and dinner are prepared by the volunteers themselves. There is a washing machine and internet.

Leisure

In their spare time, volunteers can walk in the Millingerwaard nature reserve, swim, build a campfire and visit the surrounding towns and villages, including: Nijmegen, Arnhem or Kleve.

Travel

Volunteers are picked up on the day of arrival at the Kiss&Ride of Nijmegen central station. The exact times will be shared after registration.

You arrange the travel to your project yourself. IBO asks all volunteers to travel in the most sustainable way possible, so preferably by train or bus. What you at least can do, is compensate your CO2 emissions. You can find more information about this on the website of Milieu Centraal. You can also compensate your emissions via IBO, by donating to our partner’s tree planting project in Uganda. You can read more about that here.

Preparation

IBO offers a good preparation for your volunteering work abroad. You will receive a digital information package and an invitation to a preparation meeting. Read more about the proces from departure until return.

Costs

For this project you pay €50 registration fee and €50 participation fee. If you become an IBO-supporter, you don't have to pay the registration fee.
