Project
In Adawso, a rural area in Eastern Ghana, there is a lot of poverty. Emmanuel, a city dweller himself, visited his family in this region in 2003 and decided he needed to do something.
During my visit I saw the situation of the community, with no clean drinking water, no electricity, and no school available. Children had to walk for two and a half hours or more to get to school. That is when I decided I wanted to do something to help the children in that community.
What started with a computer and two boxes of books has now grown into a library and computer room, a primary school and a program for young, motivated people who received little education, to learn new skills in order to provide for themselves.
In 2007, his organization started projects in 13 villages, in which children who left school early and children and young people living on the streets are supported in (still) completing their education.
The organization focuses on the entire community. Foreign volunteers who are interested in the projects and who want to actively contribute to them show the importance of the project, which further increases the capacity within the community.
In Adawso you can do a lot as a volunteer! For example, you can help with repairs and maintenance at the school or community center, help harvest in the vegetable garden or even build a new part of the school. It is also appreciated if you share your knowledge and experience in the field of English language, computers, mathematics or (general development) games. You can, for example, work as a teaching assistant in the classroom or, during the holidays, as an organizer of holiday activities or a tutor. All depends on your skills and knowledge, so please let us know!
The project coordinator would like to receive your motivation letter, in which you indicate what kind of work you prefer to do, what you are already capable of and what you would like to learn. He wil di his best to match you to a specific job.
