Renovate an emergency shelter for homeless women in Graz

Haus Rosalie is a shelter for homeless women – and this year, it’s celebrating its 20th anniversary! To ensure it remains a safe and welcoming space for women in need, there’s a lot to be done. And this is where you come in! At Haus Rosalie, women – with or without children and pets – can find a temporary home. Following the principle “as long as necessary, as short as possible”, the shelter provides space for 15 women in 10 small units, each with its own bathroom. A shared kitchen, living room, and a small garden create a communal atmosphere. The women receive individual support, mainly from dedicated volunteers who are on site around the clock. One of the unique aspects of Haus Rosalie is its low-threshold, immediate admission process. There are no general restrictions on the length of stay, making it a truly open and flexible refuge. The women come from all social classes and have diverse backgrounds, so empathy, understanding, and confidentiality are essential when taking part in this project. Beyond the technical work, this project offers a chance to connect with women whose life experiences may be completely different from your own. You will also get an insight of the social structures in Austria and what important part the association Vinzi plays in our society. The residents are also invited to actively participate in the workcamp, creating an opportunity for meaningful intercultural exchange. Ready to be part of something truly impactful? Join us in making Haus Rosalie an even better place for the next 20 years!

Travel

Volunteers are requested to travel to Graz themselves. There are 2 options to get here. Option 1: Travel to Vienna by train and take the Flixbus (cheap) to Graz train station. This takes approximately 2.5 hours. Option 2: Book a flight to the airport in Graz. All volunteers are picked up in Graz.

You arrange the travel to your project yourself. IBO asks all volunteers to travel in the most sustainable way possible, so preferably by train or bus. What you at least can do, is compensate your CO2 emissions. You can find more information about this on the website of Milieu Centraal. You can also compensate your emissions via IBO, by donating to our partner’s tree planting project in Uganda. You can read more about that here.
