This project arises from the collaboration of IBO Italy with the association “Liberi di essere”, which deals with the promotion and development of the territory in the province of Campobasso. The project includes activities to support local communities, working partly in Toro and partly in Colle d'Anchise, with the ultimate goal: "living with care towards a solidarity Molise region and shared good practices". In the municipality of Toro, you will renovate a rural path "Il Sentiero di_Vino" and discover traditional artefacts such as limestone walls and artefacts from small shelters (formerly used by shepherds: for example for cleaning a snowbox or working on a fountain). Agricultural, breeding and/or milk processing activities are also planned. All this is aimed at regenerating the connecting fabric of the local community of all ages. You will become an “actor” in a local folk (and material) culture, even if only for a limited period of time. In addition to the work activities, space will be created to connect with the local population. Communal moments serve to gather (and experience) knowledge from local elders to increase awareness of the value of 'common cultural heritage'. In Colle d'Anchise you work to support the Fondazione Anchise Onlus, an association committed to serve local elderly people. The mission of this association is to build a house that will serve as a day center for various activities. During the project of season 2024, a week will be devoted to building a covered shelter with a collective seating area where meeting and exchange can take place between elderly residents and non-residents.
Volunteering work
The planned work is based on sustainable reuse of materials. Part of the work is selecting usable waste and materials from demolition work and scrap stone. Volunteers will be guided by “mentors” from the community and will help select the materials and partially construct the walls, as well as contribute to micro-architecture and design. In addition to the selection of stone and traditional stoneworking tools, you'll meet local stonemasons and stone artists to try out simple handy crafts yourself.
Accommodation
Volunteers are housed in two different places during this project, as work is being done in two different municipalities. During the week in Colle d'Anchise you will stay in a guest house with double or quadruple rooms, shared bathrooms and communal facilities. There is a kitchen with living room to enjoy meals together. Volunteers will take turns preparing the meals. There are also shared outdoor areas. During the week in the second part of the camp in Toro you will stay in a house with accommodation reminiscent of a hostel with shared facilities. There are shared areas for eating meals.
Leisure time
The project partner has planned all kinds of nature, archeology and history excursions to cultural sights and/or museums. You can participate in these activities as a volunteer. There is also room to explore the area in the evenings and weekends.
Travel
Volunteers are requested to travel independently to the central train station in Campobasso. The nearest airports are Rome, Naples and Pescara. Then you can travel by train or bus to Campobasso (or directly to Toro). You will be picked up (and brought back) here by the project partner.
IBO asks all its volunteers to travel as sustainably as possible, preferably by train or bus. What you can do in any case is compensate your CO2 emissions through a recognized organisation.
