Renovate a centre for underprivileged children and youngsters in Kaspi

The “Momavali Center for Youth and Civil Initiative” was founded in 2003 in Kaspi, a city of 20,000 inhabitants, about 50 km from the Georgian capital Tbilisi. One of the organization's most important aims is working with underprivileged children and youngsters. The center regularly organizes sports, educational and cultural events. In the autumn of 2015, the conversion of an empty building into a daycare center for children with disabilities began. The daycare center for approximately 20 children is already in use, but the building needs to be further modernized, adapted for the disabled and new rooms need to be created. Since 2016, IBO volunteers have been actively supporting the renovation of the center.

Volunteer work

This year, work on a new building will continue, because the old building had to be cleared. The volunteer work will consist of: painting and varnishing work, carpentry work, sanding work.

Accommodation

The volunteers' accommodation is in the day center with separate rooms for men and women. The project partner provides breakfast and vegetarian meals are possible upon consultation. Internet can be used via a W-LAN cable connection, but unfortunately this is not always reliable. Volunteers are requested to bring their own work clothes and gloves, safety boots and bedding.

Leisure

Volunteers can spend their free time exploring the area and surrounding places such as Gori and the capital Tbilisi. If interested, an overnight excursion in a house in the mountains can be planned for the volunteers.

Travel

Volunteers are requested to travel to Tbilisi Airport themselves (by plane or other transportation). A meeting place and time will be arranged based on the arrival of the volunteers. The volunteers are picked up by people from the project.

You arrange the travel to your project yourself. IBO asks all volunteers to travel in the most sustainable way possible, so preferably by train or bus. What you at least can do, is compensate your CO2 emissions. You can find more information about this on the website of Milieu Centraal. You can also compensate your emissions via IBO, by donating to our partner’s tree planting project in Uganda. You can read more about that here.

IBO offers a good preparation for your volunteering work abroad. You will receive a digital information package and an invitation to a preparation meeting. Read more about the proces from departure until return.
