Renovate an organic care farm in Heule

'De heerlijkheid van Heule'

'De Heerlijkheid van Heule', near Kortrijk, is an open ecological farm where young people in difficult situations can contribute to society through farm work. They do this together with various volunteers. Small-scale and organic farming is central to this farm. Young people and volunteers can work in the fields (growing and harvesting vegetables), help feed the cows and small livestock, and do odd jobs in the barns. The farm also organizes training and after-school care for young people and there are two studios for crisis care. There is also a communal kitchen, versatile attic spaces and a woodworking workshop.

Volunteer work

The group will consist of a maximum of 10 young adults between 18 and 30 years old. One supervisor will also accompany you. This person will follow up on practical matters on site. You will work on the farm together with local volunteers from the project, international volunteers and young asylum seekers. This summer, the organization plans to renovate a roof, build a new storage area and also undertake painting projects. The planned tasks are therefore: renewing the roof, building a storage space and painting.

Accommodation

The farm has a beautiful area available, which is why they recommend sleeping in tents. If this is not possible, a room can be made available. You are requested to bring your own tent and sleeping gear (mat/air mattress + sleeping bag). The meals are prepared in the center itself. Vegetarian options are available in consultation with the organization. In addition, a volunteer is needed every time to support the cooking team. In addition to sleeping gear, volunteers are also requested to bring sturdy work clothes and shoes, work gloves and a raincoat.

Leisure

In consultation with the group of volunteers, you can undertake fun evening and weekend activities on site. After your working day you can discuss with the group what you would like to do. You can organize an evening activity with your group, this can be arranged in consultation with the center. Activities are organized within the group at the weekend. You can explore Heule, but also the surrounding places and surroundings.

Travel

Volunteers are expected to travel on their own to 'Kortrijk' station in Belgium. People from the project will pick you up here.

You arrange the travel to your project yourself. IBO asks all volunteers to travel in the most sustainable way possible, so preferably by train or bus. What you at least can do, is compensate your CO2 emissions. You can find more information about this on the website of Milieu Centraal. You can also compensate your emissions via IBO, by donating to our partner’s tree planting project in Uganda. You can read more about that here.

IBO offers a good preparation for your volunteering work abroad. You will receive a digital information package and an invitation to a preparation meeting. Read more about the proces from departure until return.
